Collaborative innovation hubs
Collaborative Innovation Hubs bring groups together to solve common problems through creative processes. They take many forms, incubators, accelerators, associations, collaboratories, and public/private partnerships. They are usually focused on strengthening participating organizations or solving big problems in particular markets or industries. Beneath the clickbait, glitz, and glamour, there is a lot of Formidable Work to be done in order to achieve successful outcomes. This includes for accounting for communications and interaction design, product management, workspace design, Knowledge Management, data security and other governance concerns. Innovation hubs need to achieve a balance of structured and unstructured environments, expansive exploration and critical convergence to produce positive results.

Finding New Strengths Together
Great collaboration and innovation doesn’t just happen spontanouesly. Experiences and processes that continue to produce positive outcomes requirea keen, discerning eye for human behavior and data, a lot of empathy, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to constant exploration, critical analysis and creative expression with form and function.
Engagement Overview
Design Services
1.
Declare a Direction and a Goal
Nothing is worse than a horse made by committee – as they almost always come out camels instead. Declaring a goal or destination in crystal clear high definition, is essential to preventing this. We’ll help you pinpoint true North and win over participating stakeholders.
2.
Define the Parameters
Goals are great but details matter. It’s essential to think of the requirements and constraints to ensure resources are put to good use. What tools will be used? What tech stack will be used? When will everyone gather? How will all participants communicate & Interact? What’s the hierarchy and breakdown of roles?
3.
Define the Players
From the onset, it is important to understand who the players/ collaborators are, their needs goals and stakeholders, as well as the resources and contributions they will be making on this journey.
4.
Define the Resource Requirements & Get Everyone to Get Skin in the Game
Everything is possibile in the mind, but making things happen requires TEAM resources: Time, Effort, Attention, and of course, Money. Defining the resource requirements is essential. You need enough rocket fuel and runway to take off and reach your destination. Often the players bring different resources to the table, its important to ensure that contributions are represented appropriately in equity of the hub. We can help with the monkey math here as well.
5.
Governance, Facilitation & Moderation
What information is to be held confidential? What information may be disclosed to the public? Who is hosting all the data? Who manages it? Who coordinates all the palyers? What happens when someone leaves? The answers to all of thse questions need to be known in advance.
6.
Execution
Depending on the function, size of the workforce and your goals, implementation may be iterated from proof of concept to staggered release, or simultaneous deployment.
7.
Launchpads, Pivot Points, Spinoffs and Windups
Every journey begins at some other journey’s end. It’s important to define endings, not only the goal or ending you’re hoping for. Often collaborative hubs identify new unexpected opportunities that you may want to pivot your focus to as they better suit the needs of your organization. Also often enough, a lot of new data is gathered but you arrive at a crossroad of some kind. It’s important to have plans in place for these moments. We can help with that.
